Now lockdown can be incredibly boring with only a small amount of outdoor time and some people have little work to do. The only thing left is to just sit in front of the TV all day and binge movies but the real question is which ones? Of course, the Terminator 2 makes the list, I've watched that 3 times already. Looking for something new? Here are my Top 5 movies that you should watch during the lockdown. In the famous words of Bob Ross “Let's get crazy.”
5. The Great Gatsby - 2013
I don't know if this movie makes this list because of my trip to New York was cancelled and I am sat here writing this blog instead... no of course not. I could have made this list every Leonardo DiCaprio film ever made because the man is pure genius but I picked this one because of its soundtracks, cinematics and exquisite acting (Tobey Maguire narrates the film better than David Attenborough could ever do) personal opinion. Bringing the old era of the original Great Gatsby book into something new and exciting that we can all relive. A story of an old veteran falling in love with a woman he will always be chasing even if it breaks him. The film may or may not have left me in floods of tears but I can't remember, or maybe I just don't want to admit that over the internet.
4. The Terminal - 2004
Oh, how appropriate. The world is on lockdown why not watch a film about Tom Hanks being stuck in an airport. Again ,he lands in JFK so I feel like I and Tom have a thing in common - we both just can't quite get to the big apple *sighs*. The film in some places is a bit far fetched but it manages to keep you entertained considering it's about a man stuck in an airport for a few weeks. The airport is usually only about the pre-holiday Spoons drinks even if it is at 4 o'clock in the morning. Poor Tom. Personally, I think his acting in this film deserves an Oscar but obviously critics didn't agree. Don't Listen to them! Watch it and decide for yourself. I'm not crying, you are.
3. Ready Player One - 2018
We could all do with an Oasis right now but technology isn't quite there yet. So let's just watch someone else experience it. The film has reference after reference. Its one of those films that you can watch 100 times and still catch something new. Who remembers the Iron Giant? It's amazingly animated and is all about video games. It made me wanna bust out my PS4 headset and then I remember its actually makes me incredibly motion sick. As one of the Rolling Stone magazine critics wrote in a review "As ever, Spileberg is ready to play. Are you? Game on."
2. Forgetting Sarah Marshall - 2008
Peter Bretter may be forgetting Sarah marshall but I promise you will never forget the name once you have seen this movie. Peter tries to get over an Ex-girlfriend in only the best way possible. A holiday to Hawaii for one anyone? oh, wait, Covid-19 is preventing all holidays... maybe next year. Peter does indeed get over Sarah but I will let you watch it first before I spoil it completely. It's a fun comedy that will definitely help with the isolation blues. Hey, who knows you might even enthuse you to book a trip when this shit is all over.
1. Shutter Island - 2010
Listen I know I said no more Leo but number 1, I can't help myself and 2, hear me out. The man is a genius. Together Martin Scrosese (director) and Leonardo DiCaprio (the legend) make a beautiful but yet really confusing and slightly insane baby. The film twists and turns like a ride at Thorpe Park. But you're going backwards and in the dark leaving you with no real concept of where you and this film actually are. (X no way out whaaat?). The ending is one massive mind fuck. If you have seen it before you think you know whats going down. Let me ask you this do you really know "whats going down". If you say yes, you lie!
So there you have it. My top 5 films to watch during isolation. I am sorry that there is no film made in the 1990's but you must forgive me old sir, I am only 23. There must be at least one on this list that you are watching tonight. I would also love to hear your feedback on other awesome films that you would put on this list. Once again Bro's its been great! Catchya on the flip side.
